Terrence Malick Project Update

With Rachel wrapping up promotion for “Midnight in Paris” and currently no confirmed new projects coming up we only can hope we more information on the projects that are already filmed. It’s always though to get new information on the Terrence Malick project since Malick’s work method is low-key. But since his latest film “Tree of Life“, which won the The Palme d’Or during the Cannes Film Festival, was released during Cannes we have a little bit more information on the project with Rachel, Ben Affleck, Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Barry Pepper.

The movie was shot late 2010, Rachel confirmed she was shooting around October/November 2010 and returned for re-shoots/additional shoots March 2011. There were also sightings of Ben Affleck and Olga Kurylenko in Paris last week, no confirmation if Rachel was there as well. The movie is still untitled (rumored title “The Burial“) and is set to release in 2012.

24 Frames reports that Malick recently wrapped reshoots and finished photography on the film and that according to their source it is “even more experimental than ‘Tree of Life.’” Of course, that’s fairly vague and could mean anything, but given that Malick has taken fusing drama with much larger spiritual and existential questions in “The Tree Of Life,” we’re not surprised that his next effort may be even more boldly freeform in its approach. But “experimental” means many things to many people so don’t cling to that descriptor too hard.
