Rachel in talks for “About Time”

The Hollywood Reporter is exclusively reporting that Rachel is in talks to star in the romantic comedy “About Time” from Richard Curtis. It also seems like “Most Wanted Manis also likely to happen, because she will shoot it after “About Time” according to THR.

Rachel McAdams is in negotiations to star in About Time, the latest romantic comedy from British filmmaker Richard Curtis.

Curtis, who wrote and directed Love Actually and penned Bridget Jones’s Diary, wrote the About Time script and is directing. The story is described as a fantastical feel-good movie about a man and his ability to travel back in time. He eventually meets the girl of his dreams. Domhnall Gleeson, son of actor Brendan Gleeson, will play the male lead. Bill Nighy, Tom Hollander, Margot Robbie, Lydia Wilson and Vanessa Kirby are set to co-star.

McAdams would play the dream girl, a role Zooey Deschanel had once been attached to play. Production is set to begin in London in June. Working Title’s Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Liza Chasin and Amelia Granger are producing.

McAdams is coming off a starring turn in The Vow, the romantic drama with Channing Tatum that grossed a whopping $183 million worldwide on a budget of only $30 million. After she shoots About Time, McAdams will make Most Wanted Man, a thriller that Anton Corbijn is attached to direct. That movie has a tentative September start date.

She next will appear in theaters in Terrence Malick’s untitled latest project, whose all-star cast also includes Ben Affleck, Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz.

McAdams is repped by UTA, Magnolia Entertainment and Hirsch Wallerstein.

  1. So first she did a remake of The Notebook and now she’s moving on to a remake of The Time Traveler’s Wife? Seriously?

  2. Already said this on Twitter, but I’m a little disappointed about “About Time” – I really like Richard Curtis’ style of rom-com, but the movie sounds so similar to “Time Traveller’s Wife” so it feels like she’s picking another “Notebook” to “The Vow” romantic movie similarity haha. I’m so glad she’s picking more projects though. It’s great still seeing her lurking about in LA.

And YES PLEASE to the Philip Seymour Hoffman movie. No questions about it, it’ll probably end up being one of the more attention worthy movies, considering it’s PHILIP SEYMOUR HOFFMAN. Good Gods, I hope this means 2013 will be her year!!

  3. I love Rachel McAdams but I really hope she doesn’t do this movie. I agree with the above poster, the plot sounds too similar to The TIme Traveler’s Wife and I think she has already overdone the whole romantic film thing. Although I adore her in The Time Traveler’s Wife and The Notebook , I wish she’d choose more diverse roles. Best of luck to her though!! :)

  4. I am not really disappointed in About Time, especially with Curtis writing and directing. I think it’s a good thing it’s shot in London, and I always prefer Britisch comedies over American.

For me it’s a smart move that Rachel picks indie/smaller projects with more depth and also lighter comedies/movies. It shows versatility: she can be a box office draw in the bigger movies, and she can show her acting skills in the indie movies. Not many actors can do both. TTTW wasn’t really a romantic comedy, more a drama if you ask me. I hope they will use the time element in a completely different way, it would be nice if Rachel lives in the past time. I always hope she will do a period piece one day.

I am more excited about A Most Wanted Man like you Wendy. It sounds like a promising movie. If the Terrence Malick movie goes well 2013 could be a good year for Rachel. I hope the Terrence Malick movie is award season worthy! I like that she is doing European based movies. Passion, About Time and A Most Wanted Man will be shot in Europe.
