Upcoming films hit Cannes Market for US Buyers

Sadly no (upcoming) film of Rachel was selected for this year’s Cannes Film Festival but 3 of her upcoming films will hit the market to try and find US and international distributors. Deadline is mentioning that “Passion“, “To The Wonder” (previously Untitled Terrence Malick project) and “A Most Wanted Man” are among the ‘hot film titles‘ for U.S. buyers.

The article doesn’t mention Rachel as part of the cast of “A Most Wanted Man” so we are not sure Rachel officially signed on because she could be an attraction for buyers. We hope all films will find distributors, so we hope we will get a release date for them in the next days to weeks.

Variety also wrote a more in-depth article about “Passion” searching for distributors. If you are planning on going to the festival in Cannes be sure to look out for the promotional banners for “Passion“!

In a rights split pact that could become more common as the international sales sector evolves, Said Ben Said’s SBS Prods. is dividing international sales duties with Wild Bunch on Brian De Palma’s “Passion,” one of the biggest European titles being brought into the Cannes Market this year.

Paris-based production-sales house SBS — which specializes in content considered higher-end for Europe, made by prestige auteurs (it produced Roman Polanski’s “Carnage,” for example) — will sell Italy, Germany, Spain, U.S., Australia and France.

Wild Bunch is repping Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, U.K. and Scandinavia.

Ben Said, producer of “The Girl on the Train,” said the sales split is a case of exploiting strengths and maximizing revenues.

“Asia and Latin America can require multiple contracts, a large sales structure. Wild Bunch is a specialist in Latin American and Asian sales, with excellent relationships,” he noted.

Produced by SBS Prods. and Germany’s Integral Film, “Passion” stars Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace in an English-language remake of Alain Corneau’s 2010 psychodrama “Love Crime,” about a battle to the death between a top corporate exec and her protege, which Ben Said also produced.

The producer said that “Passion” is a return to the style of De Palma’s early thrillers, such as “Dressed to Kill” and “Blow Out.” Pic has just wrapped principal photography in Berlin.

  1. Me too! I was a bit disappointed they didn’t mention Rachel for the “A Most Wanted Man” cast, I guess she didn’t officially sign on because she could be a draw for buyers.

I did notice that John Le Carré website posted the Collider article about Rachel being cast in the film, they don’t confirm it but I hope there is some kind of truce to it because they posted it: http://www.johnlecarre.com/news/2012/05/13/rachel-mcadams-to-star-in-a-most-wanted-man

  2. I really hope Rachel will star in A most wanted man, I am sure there is a clip out there by ET were she say’s her favorite actor is Philip seymour hoffman.
So hopefully if she got offered the part, she would take it beacause it’s a chance to work with her favorite actor.

    Really looking forward to Passion!
