Back in August we reported that Rachel was attached to star in the bio-picture “Maudie“, which tells the story of the late Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis. The movie hit the International Financing Forum (IFF), presented by Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), during the Toronto International Film Festival in September to find funding.
The official OMDC news letter is reporting that “Maudie” is one of the 14 movies that found funding during the IFF. A total of $2.6 million was awarded to assist in the production and development financing of all 14 movies. The movie will be produced by Mary Young Leckie and Heather Haldane from Screen Door Inc. and will be directed by Jean-Francois Pouliot.
The press release didn’t confirm that Rachel is still attached to star, but I assume she is. The movie has been around since 2009, but it looks like it’s finally getting made with Rachel’s involvement. I came across another plot description of the movie:
Maudie is a coming of age story about a famous artist who learns to overcome her handicap and discover who she truly is through her art and an unlikely love interest.

The movie is expected to start principal photography next year. Be sure to read our previous post with more details about the plot in case you missed it.
Very indie.
