Rachel Joins Jason Reitman’s “The Princess Bride” TIFF Live Read!

This is very exciting news: Writer/Director Jason Reitman announced on his official twitter account that Rachel is set to live read the role of Buttercup in the this year’s Toronto International Film Festival Jason Reitman Live Read event. The role of Buttercup was originated by Robin Wright in the movie. The festival previously released the following press release:

Inconceivable! The 40th Toronto International Film Festival® today revealed that The Princess Bride script is the subject of the Jason Reitman Live Read — a unique event in which classic movie scripts are read by contemporary actors. The script of Rob Reiner’s beloved classic will be presented to audiences in a one-take read-through with Reitman narrating stage direction on Saturday, September 12 at 6 p.m.

“The Princess Bride premiered at the Festival in 1987 and has captured audiences’ imaginations ever since,” said Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival. “To have this title return on the occasion of our 40th Festival, and be reexplored by a contemporary cast, is pure magic.”

Reitman has already announced that Donald Glover will read the role of Vizzini (originated by Wallace Shawn), Gael Garcia Bernal in the role of Inigo Montoya (originated by Mandy Patinkin), Georges Laraque in the role of Fezzik (originated by Andre the Giant) and Gage Munroe in the role of the grandson (originated by Fred Savage). The festival runs from September 10-20 and for more information about the live read event be sure to head over to the official website. Rachel will be on double festival duty with “Every Thing Will Be Fine” and “Spotlight” both playing at the festival.

We want to close this post with some fun facts because there are so many connections here. Fun fact #1: Jason Reitman mentioned at TIFF 2009 that he would love to work with Rachel, saying “I really love Rachel McAdams“.

Fun Fact #2: Rachel has worked with Robin Wright, who originally played Buttercup in the movie, two times now; They both starred in “State Of Play” and “A Most Wanted Man“. They both walked the red carpet for the New York premiere of the latter one in 2014.

Finally, fun fact #3: Over the years Rachel has expressed her love for “The Princess Bride” in various interviews. In 2005 she mentioned that the role of Buttercup played by Robin Wright was one of the roles that stuck with her growing up saying: “I loved Robin Wright Penn in The Princess Bride. I just thought she was so great. I love those quest films“. More recently she named “Princess Bride” as one of her favorite movies during the “Southpawpress junket interview with Collider (just like her co-star Jake Gyllenhaal).
