Plot Outline: The Emperor’s Children is about the intersections in the lives of three friends, now on the cusp of their thirties, making their way–and not–in New York City.

Status: Twitch Film reported that Rachel is set to star in the movie alongside Richard Gere, Keira Knightley, and Emma Thompson. Indie Wire reported that Richard Gere and Keira Knightley were attached to star in 2010 as well with Erica Bana and possibly Michelle Williams. [October 2011]

Honeymoon with Harry (2013)

Genre: Drama/Comedy

Plot Outline: A recovering self-destructive womanizer loses his fiancée in a car accident two days before their wedding and ends up going on his honeymoon with the fiancée father, who detests him, so they can scatter her ashes.

Status: This project has been around since 2004, other actors were involved including Jack Nicholson and Vince Vaughn. Robert De Niro and Bradley Cooper are currently attached this as male leads and Rachel is currently considered for the female supporting role. [August 2010] Deadline reported director Jonathan Demme stepped down as director due to conflicts with De Niro, no confirmation on what will happen next to the project. [March 2011] According to the movie database of New York Times De Niro dropped out of the project and director Jonathan Demme, Bradley Cooper and Rachel are still attached. [April 2011]

The Orphanage (2013)

Plot Outline:The female lead brings her family back to her childhood home, that she turns into an orphanage, and that is subsequently haunted by the same specter that she encountered as a child. It’s a remake of 2007?s Spanish-language horror film, “The Orphanage.”

Status: In March 2010 the first rumors appeared of Rachel eying on the female lead of “The Orphanage”. In the fall of 2009 Sandra Bullock was attached as female lead but dropped out. [March 2010] In February 2011 director Mark Pellington revealed to MTV they didn’t find an actress yet but since Rachel is attached to this project since late 2009 it could still happen.

Brilliant (2012)

Plot Outline: A master thief is forced to pair up with a sexy young con artist in order to pull off a billion dollar diamond heist.

Status: In February 2011 The Tracking Board reported Rachel is in early talks to star in “Brilliant” with Matthew McConaughey. The production is scheduled to start late summer/fall 2011 [February 2011]. Tracking Board reported that Eric Bana was -somewhat- involved in the project. [September 2011]

Oz: The Return to Emerald City (2012)

Plot Outline: A modern-day set sequel to the original film with a little darker in tone.

Status: Movieline first reported we could expect to see Rachel as the New Dorothy. Warner Bros is also attached to the project. Since the article no new announcement have been made (so far). [June 2010]

Ness (2012)

Genre: Murder/Thriller

Plot Outline: Torso tells the story of the real life “Torso Murderer”, a serial killer who was active during 1934 to 1938. He received his nickname because he left only the torsos of his victims. Without fingerprints or dental records, these victims were very difficult to identify in a time before DNA testing. The investigator on the case was Eliot Ness, Cleveland Safety Director and former head of the Untouchables.

Status: In September 2009 the rumors of Rachel being involved in the adaption of “Torso” flew around. Director David Fincher talked to MTV and confirmed he did not speak to Rachel yet: “I’ve never spoken with Rachel McAdams, though it’s a fine idea” but a few weeks later (October 2009) the project was added to Rachel’s IMDB page. The last update on “Ness” was in October 2009, when the director confirmed the project is not dead, yet … [October 2009]

Various Projects


• Rachel met director Steven Soderbergh while he was filming “Magic Mike” in Los Angeles. They talked about doing a movie together.
• Angus MacLachlan (Writer of Junebug) revealed in an interview he was juggling with different project, including one with Rachel [March 2009]. As of today no new developments or reports on this projects are made.
• Rachel was mentioned as female lead in “How to love an American man” based on the upcoming novel of Kristine Gasbarre. [August 2011]
Fans share reported that Isla Fisher talked about the possibility of a sequel to “Wedding Crashers”. [August 2011]
