Latest “Sherlock Holmes 3” News Round-Up

While Rachel is still promoting “Doctor Strange“, people are already looking forward to her upcoming projects. As you may have noticed, “Sherlock Holmes 3” (SH3) has been part of her IMDB as announced project. It has never been reported or officially announced that Rachel is part of this project but we always keep an eye out on possible projects, including this one. SH3 still seems very much in development and Variety recently reported that writers Nicole Perlman, Justin Malen, Gary Whitta, Geneva Dworet-Robertson and Kieran Fitzgerald have been hired to help shape the script and story. Further, they are reporting that Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are expected to return with Guy Ritchie expected to return as director. The Wrap reported earlier this year that the movie is top priority for Warner Bros. Earlier this year Robert Downey Jr., as we previously reported, and producer Joel Silver indicated that the movie could film this year but no follow-up reports have been made thus far confirming this. Rachel was asked about her involvement last week and told Digital Spy, “I don’t know anything about [it]”. You can find the video segment of Rachel talking about SH3 after the jump.

“Sherlock Holmes 3” Production Update

Looks like “Sherlock Holmes 3” is (finally!) moving forward. Rachel’s co-star Robert Downey Jr. revealed earlier this month that he is working on the third movie with director Guy Ritchie. They are planning to start filming before the end of this year. Deadline is reporting that screenwriter James Coyne has come onboard to rewrite the script:

Screenwriter James Coyne has been tapped to pen a rewrite of Sherlock Holmes 3. This re-kickstarts the threequel to Warner Bros’ franchise, which will return Robert Downey Jr, Jude Law and director Guy Ritchie. Ritchie/Wigram Productions, Team Downey, Silver Pictures, Dan Lin and Warner Bros are producing it.

According to Deadline Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and director Guy Ritchie will return. No word yet if Rachel or other cast members will join.

“Sherlock Holmes” Gallery Update

The Blu-Ray screencaptures of “Sherlock Holmes” have been added in our gallery. We also replaced most of the production and promotional material with better quality. Rachel stars as Irene Adler alongside Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Mark Strong. The movie is directed by Guy Ritchie, who also directed the sequel. There have been reports and rumors about the possibility of a 3rd movie, but Warner Bros hasn’t made an official announcement yet.

Robert Downey Jr: “Sherlock Holmes 3” is In Development

Robert Downey Jr. confirmed in a Reddit Q&A that “Sherlock Holmes 3” is in development. Yahoo! has the following story:

Robert Downey Jr has taken a moment out from his busy schedule hinting at, confirming, and then denying the existence of Iron Man 4, to briefly talk about Sherlock Holmes 3.

He may be best known worldwide for playing Tony Stark but let’s not forget he also has another hit blockbuster franchise under his belt in Sherlock Holmes; the last film was released in 2011.
During a Reddit AMA held to promote his new film The Judge, Downey Jr confirmed that plans were in place, saying: “Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that’s a pretty tall order.”

It has certainly been good to see no rush to make a third film, but it seems the time is drawing closer for it to become a reality.

Series director Guy Ritchie was propelled into blockbuster Hollywood by his work on the first two films, and is currently putting the finishing touches on spy thriller The Man From U.N.C.L.E before starting work on a King Arthur film set for 2016.

This means a likely 2017 release date for Sherlock Holmes 3, unless studio Warner Bros opt to hire a new director instead.

The first two films starred Downey Jr as the famous detective, Jude Law as Watson, Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler, and Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty.

It has not yet been announced who of the cast will return and we might not see Rachel’s character Irene Adler back at all given what (seems?) to happen in the second movie but we will keep you posted on the development of the 3rd movie.
