“Southpaw” Gets Award Season Re-Release

“Southpaw” Gets Award Season Re-Release

Deadline is reporting that The Weinstein Company will re-release “Southpaw” starting today in the U.S.A. They are reporting the following story:

Don’t call it a comeback. Director Antoine Fuqua’s film made $52.1M domestically after its original July 24 release. The reissue will put it on 300 screens around the country to allow for viewing by — in TWC’s words — “a more drama- and awards-focused fall audience.”

“I’m very proud of this film and honored that TWC is giving audiences another chance to see it in theaters,” Fuqua said in a statement. “Jake and the entire cast give extraordinary performances that deserve to be seen by as many people as possible.”

Rachel McAdams, Forest Whitaker, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, Rita Ora, Naomie Harris, Beau Knapp, Miguel Gomez and Victor Ortiz co-star in Southpaw, in which Gyllenhall plays Billy “The Great” Hope, a champion of the sweet science who loses everything in a personal tragedy and is forced to fight his way to redemption. To play the role, Gyllenhaal gained 15 pounds of pure muscle, leaving his Nightcrawler character — for which he earned a Golden Globe nom — in the locker room.

Popcorn with Peter Travers

Rachel stopped by ABC’s Popcorn with Peter Travers while she was in New York to promote “Southpaw” last week. The episode was released today and she talked about “Southpaw“, “True Detective” and her career. We have added the interview in our video archive and the high definition screencaptures can be found in our gallery. This has to be one of our favorite interviews of this press tour. It’s really nice to hear Rachel talk about her career in a more in-depth way.
