Director Dobkin Talks “Wedding Crashers” Sequel

Director Dobkin Talks “Wedding Crashers” Sequel

Mel Magazine published a new article, titled The Oral History of “Wedding Crashers“, which seem to include new quotes from director David Dobkin on the sequel. Last year it was reported the sequel is in development with Evan Susser & Van Robichaux set to write the screenplay with the sequel still being in early development and no deal has been made with the cast.

In November 2016, during an interview on Today, Isla Fisher revealed that progress had been made on Wedding Crashers 2, sparking anticipation for a possibly imminent sequel scripted by Fist Fight writers Evan Susser and Van Robichaux.
Dobkin: I’ve been involved [with talks about a sequel] since the beginning. [The studio] calls me every year. For a long time, there was nothing to do but make the same movie, and I wasn’t going to do that. I should’ve done that, because then I wouldn’t have to work again, but I didn’t want to. None of us really wanted to [do a sequel] unless there was a great idea. Then, about a year and a half ago, a light bulb went on in my head, and I sat down with Vince and Owen about it, and we all liked it. That’s in development now. We’ll see how it comes out. If it comes out really, really good, we’ll take a swing. There’s no reason not to. Those characters are beloved by us. We’re not making it for an audience; we have to make it for ourselves and then hope it works for everybody again.

You see, I had this moment of hitting 45 [a couple years ago] and going, “Oh, what happens when this and this happens…?” [The sequel] came from the [same] emotional story of what it means to be a man at [a certain] age and in certain situations and having to go back out into the world. It has a relevant, real story in the middle of it — you can then build the comedy around that. [With Wedding Crashers], it was about being 35 and having to come of age and going, “Wait, how much longer am I going to have to wait before I get going with love and life and monogamy and marriage?” So, we had a little bit of an exploration of that conversation. There’s another conversation happening right now that I think is just as relevant.

Dobkin and co-star Keir O’Donnell (Todd) also talked about Rachel. The excerpts can be found after the jumpt.

“Wedding Crashers 2” Update

While Isla Fisher was on the Today Show she revealed a “Wedding Crashers” sequel might be happening, as we reported last weekend. Now, Deadline and Variety are confirming the news. The latter is reporting the movie is in “early development”. Both are reporting New Line found screenplay writers. No deal has been made, but Deadline is reporting they are planning or bringing back the original cast including Rachel.

Insiders say there is reason to be hopeful, even though it’s not near a green light because the stars need to sign off creatively and then make deals that will be pricey. I’m told is a sequel script has just been turned in by Evan Susser & Van Robichaux to New Line, and the plan is for David Dobkin to return as director, along with the original stars Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Fisher and Rachel McAdams. No word on whether they’ll try to bring back Will Ferrell, Bradley Cooper or Christopher Walken, each of whom had memorable moments in the first film. Andrew Panay is returning as producer.

New Line sparked to the writing team Susser & Robichaux after they scripted the upcoming Ice Cube-Charlie Day starrer Fist Fight, which the studio releases February 17. The writers competed for the open writing assignment, and their pitch for the sequel won them the job. The original grossed $285 million worldwide on a $40 million budget.

Writer Evan Susser confirmed the news on his twitter account.

“Wedding Crashers” Sequel In Development?

“Wedding Crashers” Sequel In Development?

Rachel’s co-star Isla Fisher stopped by the Today Show yesterday and she revealed the sequel to “Wedding Crashers” might happen. She told the hosts that she bumped to Vince Vaughn, she said “I bumped into Vince Vaughn at a party and he said apparently we are going to be making a sequel.I’m excited to see what happened to Gloria.” When asked if it’s a done deal, she replied she doesn’t know about a done deal, and that she “probably shouldn’t announce it on morning television,” but said “apparently some talk of it, which is fun.” You can find the interview segment of Isla talking about the possibility of a sequel after the jump. This is not the first time there were rumors about a sequel for the movie, back in 2011 it was reported there was a sequel in the works. Keep in mind that no confirmation or reports have been made thus far, but we will try to keep you posted.

The movie celebrated it’s 10 year anniversary last year and Rachel has always stated she probably had the most fun on-set of “Wedding Crashers“. She told the press in 2013: “People have asked me what film I had the best time on, and I’d say Wedding Crashers. It was an absolutely beautiful time of year, filming out on the Chesapeake.” A few years ago Rachel was asked if she would be open to reprising her role of Claire Cleary and told reporters, “In a heartbeat — yeah, I would. It’s actually one of the movies I’ve had the most fun on”, citing a “great cast” and “great energy” on set.

“Wedding Crashers” Sequel in the works?

According to Fansshare.com there is a possibility of a “Wedding Crashers” sequel. Back in 2007 Vince Vaughn confirmed himself in an interview he and Owen Wilson were working on a script/ideas for a second “Wedding Crashers” but it was never officially announced there would be a sequel to the movie but maybe that’s about to change.

It has been suggested that there could well be a follow up to the hit 2005 comedy Wedding Crashers after one of the movies stars, Isla Fisher was overheard talking about the possibility of a sequel. The movie would be a definite hit after the success of Wedding Crashers.

An eye witness explained, “I’m a massive fan of Isla Fisher and when I saw her I couldn’t help but “accidentally” overhear her conversation and she was saying something about being offered the chance to return for Wedding Crashers 2 but she didn’t go into details about it.”

Wedding Crashers, which also starred Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn, made $283 million worldwide and a sequel would obviously be very profitable. However, the storyline would be a stumbling block as the main characters crash weddings to pick up girls but both men ended up with their dream girl at the end of the movie. If Wedding Crashers 2 does get the go ahead, do not expect to see it before 2015.

We are not sure how reliable the source is but we thought it was interesting there could be a follow-up to “Wedding Crashers“. Keep in mind this is still a rumor and if there is a sequel it could be Rachel isn’t returning to play Claire. Thanks to our affiliate Isla Fisher Web for pointing this news out.
