Rachel McAdams (“The Notebook,” “Spotlight”) is also in Tel Aviv researching her upcoming role as an Icelandic singer in the Will Ferrell-penned comedy “Eurovision.” The movie will lens this summer at Pinewood Studios in London.
“It’s my first time to Israel and I have no idea what to expect,” said McAdams while boarding her El Al flight from LAX. “I had to jump at the chance. It just felt like the opportunity of a lifetime.”

All week long, the calendar on the official Eurovision application for delegations and press has marked off filming times devoted to Netflix. Other than that, both the European Broadcasting Union and Netflix have been mum on details of the film and its shooting schedule.Rachel has been spotted in Tel Aviv earlier this week, reportedly to prepare for the movie. Rachel McAdams is in talks with Netflix to star in Eurovision, which means a re-team with her Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin and co-star Will Ferrell.This news brings us back to a quote from director Dobkin during the promotion of “Wedding Crashers“. When asked about Rachel back in 2005 he said the following: “She [Rachel] hates being compared, but I often said to her, ‘You can be Meryl Streep. You can be Sigourney Weaver or Julia Roberts. I believe she can make almost anything that you ask her to do“.
The comedy is set around the The Eurovision Song Contest, the longest-running annual international TV song competition. The contest is famous around the world with former winners including ABBA (won in 1974 for Sweden) and Celine Dion (won in 1988 for Switzerland) who went on to have iconic careers. The contest started in 1956 with seven West European nations participating. The 63rd edition of the competition had 43 countries competing for top prize. At the finale in Lisbon last year, Israel was named the winner with the song “Toy,“ performed by Netta.
Ferrell wrote the script with Andrew Steele, and he is producing with Jessica Elbaum and Chris Henchy from Gary Sanchez. Adam McKay is exec producing.
The Oscar-nominated McAdams’ recent credits include Best Picture winner Spotlight, Disobedience and Game Night. She’s repped by Magnolia Entertainment, WME, and attorney Howard Fishman.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Scott Derrickson is set to return for the sequel of “Doctor Strange“. Rachel’s costars Benedict Cumberbatch and Benedict Wong will return as well with Rachel “likely to return as well”. Variety is also reporting the return of Derrickson with Cumerbatch, Wong and Rachel “expected to reprise” their roles.
Scott Derrickson, who directed and co-wrote the mystical Marvel hero’s initial 2016 outing, has quietly finalized a deal to helm the new installment.
A search for a writer to pen the script is about to get underway.
Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange, the good doctor turned master of the mystic arts, as will Benedict Wong, who played his right-hand man, Wong. Rachel McAdams, who played Stephen Strange’s love interest, is likely to return as well.
Strange was last seen de-materializing in the $2 billion-grossing Avenger: Infinity War, where one of his lines of dialogue served as the inspiration for the title of the fourth Avengers movie, Avengers: Endgame.
Marvel has been tight-lipped about its plans for life after Endgame, which it is calling Phase Four. After all, how much can there be when half your heroes are supposed to be dead?
In any case, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the plan is for the script to be hashed out in 2019 with an eye toward a spring 2020 production start. If all goes well, the movie would be casting its spell on audiences in May 2021.
Marvel had no comment.
The 2018 British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) were announced earlier today and “Disobedience” received 5 nominations, including a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Rachel. The other nominations are: Best British Independent Film, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Screenplay. Congratulations to Rachel, the cast and crew! “Disobedience” had a strong opening in the box office this weekend and doubles the opening numbers of any film from Bleecker Street according IndieWire. Deadline is reporting the movie posts no #2 thus far in the box office of the limited releases of this year. The movie will be slowly expanding to more theaters the coming week and will officially go nationwide on May 18 in the United States. Fresh from an Oscar win for Best Foreign Language Film for A Fantastic Woman, Sebastián Lelio scored with English-language drama/romance Disobedience, which had the second-best limited bow of 2018 on a per-theater average basis. The Bleecker Street title starring Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams grossed $241K in five locations, averaging $48,255. (The only better limited debut this year has been Searchlight’s Isle of Dogs, which averaged $60,011 per theater in its March debut and has cumed $27 million to date.)
Bleecker Street said Sunday that Disobedience saw strong LGBT and art house patronage over the weekend in its New York and LA launch, with a wide age range from 20s to 50-pluses. “Sellouts occurred in all houses throughout the weekend, particularly during prime evening shows,” said Bleecker Street’s Jack Foley told Deadline. “Mid-afternoon matinees were near capacity… We are extremely happy with the weekend’s business. I think if we had more seats, frankly, we would have done more business.”
Foley noted that the female-to-male ratio was 70-30% at the Angelika in downtown Manhattan, while at uptown site Lincoln Square it came in closer to 50-50. Disobedience is also Bleecker Street’s biggest platform release ever, just ahead of Eye In the Sky, which opened in five locations in April 2016, grossing $113,803 ($22,761 PTA).
Bleecker Street will widen Disobedience to Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Washington D.C., Denver, Phoenix, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Portland. New York and L.A. will also add more locations.

The movie has been very well received with critics praising the leads performances, be sure to check out our reviews round-up in case you missed it. While we always try to have a – somewhat – neutral stand and not favorite any projects of Rachel and promote them equally we do want to take this opportunity to ask everyone to go and support this movie by seeing it in theaters. It seems a passion project of everyone involved and we think it’s important to show support for smaller independent movies like this.
