Reminder: “True Detective” Season 2 Premieres Tonight!

We would like to remind everyone that the anticipated second season of “True Detective” airs tonight on HBO (US). Rachel stars as Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County sheriff’s detective, alongside Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch. Justin Lin directed the first two episodes and Nic Pizzolatto wrote all eight episodes. We previously made a round-up with the first reviews (which are based on the first 3 episodes!) so be sure to check it out in case you missed it.

HBO – A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California.

Check your local listings for the time. Many international HBO or sister networks are simultaneously airing the episodes or will air it tomorrow evening primetime (local time).

“True Detective” Clips & Magazine Scans

With only one (!) more day until the season premiere of “True Detective” we have updated our site with the latest promotional material. We added an additional production still and various magazine scans in our gallery. We also added two clips of the series in our video archive which were both released by the official twitter account @TrueDetective. Many thanks to my friends Luciana, Colleen and Bubbles for their donations!

“True Detective” & “Southpaw” News Round-Up

Since the release of both “True Detective” and “Southpaw” is getting closer the promotion for both projects has already started. HBO released a new TV spot/trailer for the series, which features critics reactions, and we added it to our video archive. The first interviews are also getting released. Transcripts can be found in our press archive, the scans in our gallery and some excerpts below. We also added two additional stills of the series in our gallery. Only 5 more days until the season premiere, on Sunday June 21st! Finally we also added a new TV Spot/clip of “Southpaw” which was exclusively released by Tidal in our video archive. Rachel’s co-star Jake Gyllenhaal is currently promoting the movie in Europe and he will make an appearance on The Graham Norton Show this Friday.

On choosing projects: “I judge projects by the people involved and the quality of the writing. If I feel a connection to the role I’m willing to play almost anything. Something either clicks or it doesn’t. But I have a romantic side – I’m drawn to those stories.”

On working with James Franco: “He’s so easy to work with. Even though he plays a man [in “Every Thing Will Be Fine”] who’s haunted by his past, he was light- hearted on the set. I’ve wanted to work with him for a long time. It was a wonderful experience.”

On working with Colin Farrell: “Colin is an absolute sweetheart. We spent a fair amount of time hanging out together and bringing snacks to each other. He’s a big snack guy.”

“True Detective” Press Conference Additions

We have added additional images of Rachel during the “True Detective” press conference in our gallery and we also replaced previous ones with better quality. Many thanks to my friends Luciana and Nicole for their donations!

“True Detective” – First Reviews Round-Up

As we mentioned yesterday the first reviews for “True Detective” are getting released. HBO only send out screeners for the first 3 episodes and a few sources have published their reviews already. Overall the reviews are positive, and while some critics seem to think it doesn’t live up to season one yet they also say they see potential for the rest of the season. We will round-up the reviews in this post, especially the ones focussing on Rachel. The reviews mentioning Rachel’s performance all praise it! This post will be edited when more reviews are getting released.

“HBO’s hit show struggles the second time around — but Rachel McAdams shines. So here’s the surprise twist: Rachel McAdams makes a hell of a cop. She’s easily the best thing about the second season of True Detective. Her transition from mean girl to bad cop is amazing: She’s a tightly wound, sarcastic loner with a thing for knives and no particular desire to hide her rage. It’s one thing for the doe-eyed starlet from The Notebook to cut it as a hard-boiled Southern California cop. It’s quite another for her to be the most credible and convincing thing about the show — but here we are. The new-model True Detective would be lost without her. It’s an old-school anthology series, where every season is a different story with a different cast — no more Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson on the Louisiana bayou. Instead, it’s an L.A. County criminal-conspiracy story full of philosophical speeches — basically The Chinatown Monologues. So it all comes down to McAdams, the only cookie here you’d be scared to tangle with. It was a surprise to see McAdams on True Detective. But it’s even more of a surprise that she turns out to be the truest detective here.”
